Rate Availability Troubleshooting
If your property finds that there is a problem with Rate Availability and Forecasting, use the following check list to identify possible solutions:
- What reports or screens are displaying a discrepancy?
- Are there any reports or screens that are balancing with each other, and if so can you identify them?
- Print hard copies of reports or screens where the problem is occurring as well as those which are balanced.
- Make sure the Forecast Processor is started and running.
Comparing Numbers
Use the following check list to compare the numbers for Room Availability:
Comparing Rate Availability/Forecast Reports Data
Use the following reports to identify and possibly resolve Rate Availability issues:
- The Detailed Availability Report (detail_avail) displays availability based on room types for a specified date range. The report can reflect either Availability or Occupancy. This information is pulled directly from the Detailed Availability screen (Ctrl+F2).
- The Reservation Forecast (res forecast1), Market Segment Totals (res forecast2) and the forecast portion of the History and Forecast report (history forecast) are using the Forecast Processor.
- The Forecast Future Occupancy report (resfutureoccupancy) is a mirror image of the Control Panel (Shift F2). Data is retrieved from the same view.
- The Business on the Books report (business on the books) can be directly compared to the history forecast report as long as the business on the books report includes Block rooms not picked up.
- The Block Forecast report (blk forecast) determines the current status of blocks that have been created in OPERA. The report can be printed for a forecast of current status, picked up, contracted, or the number of rooms that are still available.
- The Rooms on the Books report (rooms books) forecasts for a year out from the selected date for all the reservations currently on the books. You can choose to include the display of forecasted revenue and whether or not to include those reservations attached to a block.
Synchronizing Room and Front Office Status
If you think an Availability discrepancy may be with Out-Of-Order or Out-Of-Service rooms, perform the following step to synchronize Room Status and FO Status:
Select Rooms Management > Housekeeping > Rooms > Shift F7 > Synchronize Room Status/FO Status > Yes.
As a rule re-synchronizing inventory should only be performed if necessary. This utility should not need to be performed every day or even on a weekly basis. This will resolve Availability issues by repopulating the tables but this is an interim solution only. Therefore, it is imperative that a full diagnosis be completed, and if there is still a technical question or problem, contact Oracle Technical Support.
Note: If synchronization of inventory is required no user should be actively working in the Reservation and Group modules, and the Forecast Processor should be closed. Only up to 10 days at a time should be synchronized. This will have a small performance impact so it is suggested that synchronization be run when there are very few users working in OPERA. Synchronization will create archive logs so always check disk space prior to running this utility.
